Sources of web traffic equal money made at the end of the day. That is why it is an infinitely interesting topic. If you are into building bans sites like me, traffic is the same as paydirt. Looking at my Google analytics statistics I can see that Internet forums are also a very valuable source of web traffic. Go onto a forum not with the intention of standing by with the intention of starting interesting debates that are strictly related to the topics outlined within that form. For example I have two banned sites about musical instruments. One about electronic synthesizers and the other one about guitars. I have made numerous posts within two popular Internet forums for the subjects. One is called KVR audio and the other is the ultimate guitar tablature forum.
Creating debates on Internet forums not only allows you to drive traffic to your own website but can give you ideas for articles for your bans sites as well. I can remember one post I made had hundreds and hundreds of responses to it and the debate got so varied and complicated one post on this forum could be turned into 10 or 20 individual articles if not more.
Of course it goes without saying that one must use the signature line when posting in an Internet forum otherwise the public has no way of knowing how to get to your site. Usually a signature line consists of an on obtrusive little phrase at the bottom of every post you make. Be sure to maximize your signature Text capacity as you might want to add as many links as possible. Don't however make it look to spanning as people will be turned off and aware that you are simply trying to market something. People are usually on the Internet to get as much free information as possible without being inundated with advertisements.
Another way to get traffic is to use micro-blogging sites. There are two micro-blogging sites that I'm using now. One is twitter.com and the other one is Romanian site called cirip.ro. The last one cirip.ro actually allows you to add follow links. From what I understand of follow link is more valuable than a non-follow link. As I understand it of follow link shows the actual full URL that you are linking to. Therefore the reader knows what subcategory section within your website the article is listed in. This is also a valuable tool because the Google box as they are known are able to crawl from your micro-blogging site into your website and hopefully index it.
My experience with these micro-blogging sites has been a little bit iffy for me. When I try to google my information I see that these micro-blogging sites list my information readily and that is a very good thing however when I look at my Google analytics I see that I get very little traffic from these micro-blogging sites. Anyway it is an ongoing experiments and I am sure that every little bit counts.
So don't forget that Internet forums and micro-blogging sites are two very powerful ways to get your stuff listed and indexed in Google and with Internet forums you are also able to drive a fair amount of traffic to your website. It's a fun engaging and stimulating way to build traffic.
